Get to Know Me Tag!

Hi there, and welcome to my blog! I've been toying with the idea of a blog for awhile, but have finally decided to just take the plunge. I decided that the best way for my readers to get to know me and understand what I'm all about. The initial tag that inspired me was on Emily Eddington's site which you can find here!

Feel free to keep reading to learn a little bit about me!

1. Is your hair naturally curly or straight?
My hair is naturally wavy. When I was younger and up until I hit puberty, it was stick straight. As I've gotten older and after I had my son, the curl really likes to pop up in sporadic areas. Since having it short in a pixie, I actually find that I quite like the bit of wave. It keeps things interesting!

2. Do you dye it yourself or go to a salon?
I actually no longer color my hair. Since my hair is so short, it really doesn't make sense to me to spend all the time and money to color it. I also quite like the color nowadays. In my past, I've gone to salons as well as colored my hair at home. My hair has been all colors of the rainbow although over the last few years, it ranged between a blue/black color which I loved and a deep chestnut brown.

3. Do you wear the same style everyday, or do you change it?
Unfortunately, since again my hair is quite short, I am stuck to wearing it very similarly day to day. I am "blessed" with many different cowlicks though so the part may change and I love adding accessories like headbands, hats and barrettes to keep it interesting. I actually feel more feminine having shorter hair as it forces me to think outside the box in terms of my outfits/makeup, etc. When I had longer hair though, it either tended to be down and wavy or back in a ponytail. Part of the reason I cut it so short was actually to minimize the style time (when you have a toddler, there is little time for getting hair done, let alone put on makeup!) as well as feel more put together instantly. My hair looks "effortlessly chic", or so I've been told, even when I do nothing to it. My thinking was that if I had long hair, I should do things with it and I never did. It got boring.

4. Do you do your own mani/pedi or go to a salon?
I love love love going to the salon. When I'm bored or have down time which is rather infrequent, I'll do my nails and toes myself. Most of the time though, I go to a salon. I love the gel systems out there like Shellac, Axxium, CND, etc. because I am really tough on my hands and the staying power is incredible. I do have the UV light and the polishes to do them at home but I am just not nearly as good as the salon when I try to do it and end up with color all over my cuticles which let's face it, looks ugly. My toes, I'm less concerned about and polish stays there for at least 3 weeks. I try to go every 2-3 weeks to get my gel manicure done and then usually about every other time for a pedicure .

5. How often do you change your nail polish?
As I mentioned above, when I have gel on my hands, I usually go every 2-3 weeks to get a new color and a manicure since my hands are super dry. My toe polish usually changes every 3 weeks or so depending on grow out (ew...toes just gross me out even if they are pretty and painted) and color fade.

6. Do you polish your toes in the winter or just the summer?
I have my toes painted at all times, even if its just a light pink. I  HATE my toes when they aren't painted.

7. How long does it take for you to put on makeup?
If I'm in a hurry, I can get a full face done in 10 minutes. I don't like the finished product when it's less than that. I can do it, but it doesn't feel as put together to me. I do enjoy putting on my makeup though so I take much longer than others. It's not a chore to me! Typically, on a day to day basis when getting ready for work or just to run errands, its about 30-40 minutes. Since my hair doesn't take too long, my get ready time is rather quick. If it's a special event, I like to allow myself an hour.

8. What do you do first - face or eyes?
I usually do my face first since this is the area that I'm most concerned about. My skin is far from perfect and I like to be able to see everything once my skin is evened out and flawless. It's easier for me to determine how much color I can play around with when my skin is set. I rarely, although it does happen, do my eyes first and it just always feels off to me. Unless my skin is going to be just lightly powdered (which doesn't happen often), I start off with the face.

9. Do you collect makeup or just buy what you need when you need it?
I don't think that I'd have this blog or storage in my bathroom solely for makeup if I just bought it when I needed it...that said, I do have products I buy regularly that are standard for me but I'm always on the lookout for something new or special that I can possibly review, demonstrate or talk about with people. Makeup is something that I'm passionate about and for that reason, its impossible for me to only have what I need particularly when I want to compare high-end versus drugstore products and things of that nature.

10. How often do you wear false eyelashes?
Rarely. Unfortunately, my eyes are really sensitive and are allergic to most of the eyelash glues that are out there like Duo. So...if you have any recommendations, please let me know because I LOVE THEM but seldom get to put them on.

11. Do you do a full face of makeup everyday?
99% of the time, yes. I feel more confident when I wear makeup. If I'm running errands, taking my son to the park, or hanging out at home, the look is usually more minimal, particularly on the eyes, than my day to day work wear. For example, at work I usually wear lipstick as I feel it looks more polished for meetings and things but on the weekend, I might wear a lip gloss or chapstick. And then there are days where my makeup at work is rather plain and I wear bright red lipstick to the grocery store. That's the beauty of makeup - you can mix it up anyway and anytime you want to!

12. Do you wear makeup when you're home alone or with family?
Yes! (See prior answer) I feel more like myself with makeup on than without. Kind of sad, but that's the truth! And it's fun to put on!

13. Will you leave the house without makeup?
Yes. I will but I don't like to. My skin is not in the best shape. I had cystic acne as a teenager and have quite a bit of scarring and pigmentation as well as leftover melasma around my eyes from being pregnant. I prefer to have a little powder rather than nothing but I will. I do generally feel more put together with makeup on.

14. How many high-end products do you have?
I wouldn't even know where to start. I know off the top of my head, that I have over 30 Bare Escentuals eyeshadows, 3 large palettes full of MAC eyeshadows, a large face palette of MAC blushes, various compacts from Nars, Estee Lauder, Laura Mercier; and that's just the start without counting any lipsticks. I actually think I own more high end products than drugstore, however I use drugstore more often than my high end products. For example, I LOVE the Wet N Wild Color Icon eyeshadow palettes and tend to reach for that more than my MAC shadows. It's all a mix for me anyway. My daily look usually consists of a good mixture of both high-end and drugstore.

15. Do you plan your OOTD every night or decide when you're getting dressed?
I am a planner so I prefer to have things picked out the night before. This way, I'm not rushed in the morning and I know what will coordinate well with my makeup. On the weekends, it's a different story. I tend to pick out comfortable pieces rather than having a specific structure unless I'm doing something, such as going out or whatever the case might be.

16. How often do you change your handbag?
I have one bag right now that I love but I do tend to change them regularly. I really want this Marc Jacobs purse but it costs major bucks. If I had that, I honestly think that I would just stick with that bag, but I alternate between a small satchel and a larger bag for work every now and again. It really depends on the situation and what I need the purse for.

17. What time do you wake up and go to sleep?
During the work week, I wake up about 6:00 am and go to bed between 10:30 pm-11:00 pm. On the weekends, it varies. My son usually wakes up between 7:00 am and 8:00 am, so I'm up with him whatever time that may be. Bedtime also varies if my husband and I are catching up on our shows, or how tired we are.

18. How often or when do you workout?
I try to work out every few days and have been really slacking in this department lately. My family eats Paleo, primarily due to my husband's gluten allergy and my son's milk and eggs allergy. We have gotten away from processed, sugary foods and that has made tremendous benefits in our lives. The workout part, unfortunately is not as successful. I do run around with my son at the park on the weekends and we try to go for walks in the evening but it is not a regular thing. I have recently started doing CrossFit at home using this website. It's a fantastic resource if you're not sure what CrossFit is and you want to try it out. Plus,  you don't have to pay a ridiculous amount of money to go to a CrossFit gym - always a plus!

19. Left handed or right handed?
Right handed.

20. How tall are you?
5'3"

21. Do you speak any foreign languages?
I used to! I took Spanish all four years in high school and can read and write it well enough to get by in conversation but seriously stink at speaking it. I can also read some Hebrew and Russian.

22. How many pets do you have?
If you don't count my son, none. :)

23. How often are you on Blogger?
I am on Blogger not as often as I'd like (something which I'm hoping to remedy by this post!) But I do follow up and read other blogs on here all the time. I have too many favorites...

24. Do you read comments posted on blogs?
Sometimes. If it's pertaining to a topic that I'm really interested in, I'll make a point to read them as some really insightful advice can be given there.

25. Do you keep a list of products to try as you see other posts?
Sometimes. I do have a mental list in my head of what I want to try. When I go out and see those products, I make it a point to try and purchase them at the time. I do also have a list going on my computer of  all the products I have tried and hope to review here...it's a BIG list!

26. How did you come up with your blog name?
I was going to call it "Kiss Me Cate" after the musical but it was already taken....so I just figured Call Me Cate was close and it sounded cute. Plus, people are always spelling or saying my given name (Caitlin) wrong, so it was rather appropriate.

27. What kind of camera do you use for your photographs?
I actually use my husband's camera and he has a Canon DSLR. I don't know make and model. I'm terrible at that sort of thing. If you're interested, I'll find out. I do also use my Canon EasyShot for a lot of photos in my personal life and plan on using that here too.

28. How often do you clean your house?
Because I work full time and go to school full time and have a young child, I clean when I can. I deep clean at least once a week - typically spread apart over the weekend when he is taking naps. This way, I don't have to worry about him getting into stuff while I'm trying to clean.

29. What's your favorite color?
Purple.

30. Do you swear?
More than I'd like. I'm working on it!

31. What are you doing with the rest of your day?
Cleaning the house, and trying to start my foundation series! I have SO many that I've tried and I hope that it will be helpful for you reading this blog to determine what you should/shouldn't try.

Thanks for reading!!!
